Carl

Carl "I've worked for Dimensions for nearly two years now. I was attracted by the unique post of being an auditor - it sounded fun and I would be helping people. Before starting at Dimensions I worked at a place called Burton Street where I helped people with learning disabilities to develop their skills. Also, when I was younger, my parents supported people with disabilities so I was brought up in that environment of caring.

"When I do an audit, I go into the house of someone we support and try to find out if they are living the life they want to live. Each week I plan to do 3 days out and about doing audits and a day in the office, but that always changes, which I love. The thing I find most interesting is meeting lots of people and learning new things. There's never a dull moment!

"One experience I will always remember is when Linda, my line manager, and Lisa, our regional representative, asked me to do a presentation about the common themes I have found in my audits. Some of the things I found out are

  • people want more support to meet new friends
  • people want more family involvement
  • people want to move into their own homes

"When I did the presentation Linda asked me to email it round and I got lots of great feedback. Someone said I was an 'inspiration to the people we support', which felt great."
